SAR membership is based on documented lineal descent from a Revolutionary War Patriot. Meaning an ancestor who supported the cause of American independence. A qualifying ancestor may have served in the military, provided civil service, furnished supplies, supported the cause materially, served on patriotic committees, or otherwise rendered acceptable service during the Revolutionary War period.

What You Need:
A Patriot Ancestor
You must identify a qualifying ancestor who supported American independence.

A Documented Bloodline
You must document each generation from yourself back to that Patriot ancestor.

Chapter Support
Our chapter can help you understand the process, review what you already have, and guide you toward the next step.

Important Note:
You do not need to have everything figured out before contacting us. Many prospective members begin with only a few family names, dates, or stories. Our chapter can help you determine whether there may be a workable Patriot line.
